2 years of Digital Scheme checks
It’s been over 2 years since the onboarding landscape for employers changed; the launch of Digital Schemes allows employers to remotely confirm right to work and check identity documents for DBS by verifying the identity of people with suitable documents using an Identity Service Provider (IDSP).
As one of the first certified IDSPs, we’ve helped hundreds of employers to adopt their onboarding processes and introduce technology. We’ve pulled together a guide reviewing the past 2 years, as part of our ongoing monitoring of trends, including:
1) Insights from our document analyst team
As guidance changes, so do the methods which fraudsters use to try and facilitate illegal working. Find out more about the patterns we’ve seen.
2) A look at the sectors which have embraced digital technology
Before the Digital Schemes, the sectors choosing to use technology to support their onboarding were mostly those with high-turnover, multi-site recruitment. However, the Digital Scheme, combined with increased remote working, has led to organisations across a far wider range of sectors choosing technology. Discover who are the fastest adopters.
3) Trends in fraudulent identity documentsTrustID are constantly monitoring the sort of fraudulent proof of identity which our customers see. The emerging trend across the past 2 years has been around ‘imposters’, i.e. employees presenting genuine evidence – passport, passport card or share code – which doesn’t belong to them. Explore these trends in greater detail. |
4) Why Right to Work checks are important
Illegal working remains a key focus for the UK Government with the Home Office clamping down on anyone employing or exploiting illegal workers. Find out why it’s important to remain compliant.
5) Common challenges and rejection reasons
Sometimes, we have to reject a Digital identity check. Many of the reasons that lead to a rejection highlight the risks to which a manual process alone might expose an employer. See a few examples of challenges.
6) What’s next for Right to Work guidance?
As founding members of the Association of Document Validation Professionals, working closely with the Home Office, law enforcement and Government bodies, we share our thoughts on what might change around Right to Work guidance.
